Racism and Anti-racism in Brazil in the 21st century
Course description
In this course we will study the history of the foundation of Brazil, its colonial and slave past to then understand the legacy of these relations still present today.
We will also reflect critically on our present, leading us to imagine the future we want, a country without racism or any form of discrimination and prejudice.
Objectives
- Establish a relationship between history and the current reality of racism.
- Develop familiarity with the appropriate terminologies in the context of racism and anti-racism.
- Create strategies to deal with discrimination and racism in learning environments.

- Past: Social construction of the concept of race; Slavery and its abolition in Brazil
- Present: Socioeconomic and political indicators; Prejudice, Discrimination and Racism; Self-declaration and colorism; Blackness, whiteness and privileges
- Future: End of racism; Afrofuturism, diversity and legislation
