Racial and Cultural Literacy: important knowledge for teaching African culture in physical education classes
Course description
The course promotes critical training on racial literacy and the appreciation of African and Afro-Brazilian cultures in school physical education.
It addresses concepts such as race, ethnicity, whiteness, impacts of colonization and slavery, legislation and educational guidelines, as well as proposing anti-racist pedagogical practices.
It includes the teaching of Afro-descendant cultural expressions and the sharing of experiences for a diverse and inclusive physical education.
Objectives
- Understand the social construction of race and ethnicity and the impact of whiteness on social and educational relations.
- Analyze the history of colonization and slavery and their implications in educational practices.
- Reflect on legislation and curriculum guidelines in the context of physical education.
- Promote possibilities for teaching games, dances, and martial practices of African origin.
- Adopt anti-racist pedagogical practices and value African and Afro-Brazilian cultures.
