Racism and Obstetric Violence: issues of Maternity in SUS
Course description
This course addresses the intersections between racism, obstetric violence, gender, social class, and equity in the Unified Health System (SUS), based on the perspective of intersectionality.
It discusses concepts such as structural racism, obstetric racism, and institutional violence.
It also seeks to raise awareness among participants about recognizing inequalities and the various forms of violence that impact maternity, especially in historically vulnerable groups.
Objectives
- Understand the main concepts related to racism, obstetric violence, and intersectionality in the context of public health and SUS.
- Analyze how social markers such as race, gender, and social class influence experiences of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, impacting access and quality of healthcare.
- Recognize and problematize different forms of institutional and obstetric violence, aiming to promote equity in healthcare.
